Principal's Message

We love the excitement that comes with Homecoming at the high school: athletic events, reunions, parades, pep rallies, and all of the traditions that make this week special.

I hope that seeing siblings, neighbors, friends, and family members participate in these Homecoming experiences gets our students excited about their own future at the high school and all of the experiences and memories that await them.

As the primary feeder school to Alton High School, we are excited to show our support for the Alton School District and celebrate Homecoming together. Listed below are some of the fun activities we will participate in this week as we help build school spirit and celebrate our Redbird community!

Digital Citizenship

We are living in an age where social media and AI are becoming increasingly common ways for students to communicate and interact. Unfortunately, we are seeing situations where students are using these platforms to communicate in negative, hurtful, or threatening ways.

Please take some time to talk with your child about the serious implications of posting or sharing negative, threatening, or inappropriate messages, images, or other content online. Students may believe that something posted online is private, temporary, or “just a joke,” but digital communication can be shared widely and can have lasting consequences.

When online conflicts involve our students and disrupt the school environment, they may become subject to school discipline, even when the original communication occurred outside of school. In many cases, these conflicts are unnecessary and can be avoided by choosing not to respond, post, or share hurtful content.

Please remind your child to think carefully before posting or responding online: If you would not say it respectfully to someone in person, it probably should not be posted online.

Thank you for partnering with us to help our students make responsible choices and maintain a safe and respectful school community.

AMS Digital Citizenship Messages
  • Post with purpose.
  • Pause before you post.
  • Delete doesn't mean gone.
  • Screenshots last longer than apologies.
  • If you wouldn't say it face-to-face, don't send it.
  • Don't turn a digital conflict into a hallway conflict.
  • Your phone may be at home. Your digital footprint isn't.

Dress Code Reminder

The summer and spring seem to promote the most violations so I wanted to highlight some of the viloations we see this time of year. This information can also be found in the ACUSD #11 Student & Family Handbook.
  • Clothing with holes, rips, tears, and clothing that is otherwise poorly fitting, showing skin and/or undergarments may not be worn at school.
  • Mesh or see through clothing or clothing which has been torn or cut away which expose body parts or under garments which are normally covered is not permitted.
(This has been the biggest violation)
  • All top garments must cover shoulder to shoulder and the student’s entire torso must be covered.

  • Hats, coats, bandannas, sweat bands, headphones/earbuds, Meta AI Smartglass (or other similar brand), and sunglasses may not be worn in the building during the school day. Religious headwear is permitted.
